Journal of Family Life Education is an initiative of SAAFE, an alumni of UIM-FRTI. Published by UIM Family Research Training Institute, Bangalore, India (www.uimfrti.org)

The Journal of Family Life Education is an initiative of SAAFE (South Asia Association of Family-Life Educators) on behalf of UIMFRTI to benefit its members serving in their respective fields to build families. 

The journal provides scope for multi-disciplinary,  integrated research approaches, combining Christian theology, sociology, psychology, behavioral sciences, family law and more. It provides space for research on the rich cultural and religious influences on families of South Asia with its various ethnic and faith backgrounds. The journal is a platform to bring our research that builds into theory and practice pertaining to the uniquely diverse South Asian context. This journal is an initiative to empower family educators and counsellors with real-time research from their contexts that augments their work and nurtures families in their contexts and beyond.

This journal examines professional issues that are confronting family life educators and counsellors due to changing family systems. It also offers opportunities for budding researchers to publish their research to be of greater benefit to other scholars and practitioners in the field of family life studies. This Journal includes articles from the thesis done by students for Master of Arts degrees in Family Life Education – M.A. (FLE) and Marriage and Family Counseling – M.A. (MFC).

UIM- FRTI is a post-graduate research institute in Bangalore, India pioneering in the field of Family Life Education. This is an offspring of Urban India Ministries (UIM), serving families since 1998 in family education and counselling. The unique approach of multi-disciplinary, experiential learning offered in the compressed semester model attracts mature candidates from various parts of South Asia.

As an offshoot of a Christian ministry, this institute follows an integrated model of Christian theology with various disciplines of sociology, psychology, behavioral sciences, family law and many more. The institute recognizes the various cultural and religious influences of South Asia and trains its students to be culturally sensitive and relevant to various ethnic and faith backgrounds without compromising on the tenants of a healthy natural family.

The institute believes that strong families are critical to building a strong community. The alumni of FRTI serve mainly in different parts of South Asian countries such as India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, etc. Many students also are from the Middle East.

South Asia Association of Family-Life Educators (SAAFE): 

SAAFE (South Asia Association of Family-life Educators) was formed in May 2020 by the alumni of UIM-FRTI as a professional body to accredit and certify family life educators of South Asia. It aims to train and engage its members with awareness of the latest trends that affect and builds families.

It serves as an advocate to recommend strong family policies and practices that are lasting through constant research. Our members include scholars, professionals, and students in Family Life Education, Marriage and Family therapist, social workers, sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, theologians, child development specialists, advocates, health professionals and more.

This journal is an initiative to fulfil its objective of sharpening family educators and counsellors with real-time research conducted through UIM- FRTI and other institutes.
